Kingsthorpe Sure Start Children's Centre serves the needs of families of children
0-5 years. The centre is based on the site of Kingsthorpe Grove Primary School in
what was the old swimming pool in St David's Road.
Currently services are being provided within the school by a number of multi-agency
providers.
- Two family support workers are available throughout the week to enable families to
access service provision and to give support and advice.
- Two Children's Information Officers also have local and national information at their
fingertips and are at the end of the telephone or on reception when you call.
- Parenting sessions, Healthy Families programmes and Family learning are just a few
of the present activities.
- Health Visitors hold baby weigh-in sessions; postnatal and "Baby and me" groups.
- Children's activities include "Stay and Play" and "Music for Tots" There are also
opportunities to speak with Speech Therapists and Health Visitors at these sessions.
- "Spectrum" provides a support group for families and children with special needs
including Autistic Spectrum disorders and Down's syndrome.
- Yoga is just one of the healthy lifestyle options.
- Job Centre Plus holds a surgery on the last Thursday of each month to give advice
on benefits, training and current job availability.
- There are courses for families were English is not your first language.
- Day Care provision at present is being met through access to Child minders "Tic Tac
Toe" and "Oscars" Extended Schools club. These are flexible providers meeting the
needs of childcare between 8am - 6pm.
Children's Information Officers can also signpost you to current vacancies in local
day care provision in Kingsthorpe.
