Under Article 12 of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of a Child, children have the right to say what they think should happen when adults are making decisions that affect them, and to have their opinion taken into account.
The Kingsthorpe Youth Forum was formed in 2008 to try and improve provision for young people in the local area. We are assisted and supported by a partnership of local Council, Police and Youth Workers representatives.
Currently, we are engaged in canvassing both young people and adults for their opinions with the aim of providing a youth shelter and a series of earthen mounds for bike riding in Kingsthorpe and have applied for funding to provide additional play and recreation facilities for children and young people on Kingsthorpe Rec. We are also planning a social event for local youths in the first quarter of next year.
The Kingsthorpe Youth Forum allows young people from all across Kingsthorpe to have
a voice on issues that affect them, and enables them to become actively involved
in local decision-
Finally, we welcome any young people from the Kingsthorpe area who want to get involved to come along to one of our meetings and take an active part in getting things done.
