Cheese & Apple Teabread

 

 

INGREDIENTS

 

225g self raising flour

Pinch of salt

Pinch of cinnamon

3 teaspoons sugar

75g butter

50g chopped walnuts

1 small cooking apple, peeled & grated

100g hard cheese, grated

2 eggs, beaten

150ml milk

 

DIRECTIONS

 

  1. Sieve flour, salt & cinnamon.  Rub in butter till mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  2. Add sugar, walnuts, apples, cheese, eggs & milk. Beat thoroughly & put in buttered 500g loaf tin.
  3. Bake for 50-60 minutes until firm to the touch at gas Mark 5, 190 degrees C. or 375 degrees F.
  4. Cool on a wire rack.
  5. Serve sliced & spread with butter.

 

Good with cheese, cold meats & pickles or with jam or honey.
